Wind has to be pretty high and consistent which is almost never the case. If you don't have consistent winds you'll be eating some sail. Also, since the inside of the poles are hollow, sand gets caked inside which makes it very difficult to place in the ground with any good depth, which is needed to keep the structure in tact. It would be better if the bottom pole section was a solid spike that could be pounded into the ground with a mallet, hammer, etc. It's a good idea but winds are not usually consistent enough to achieve the intended result and also are often swirling. Mother nature unfortunately does what she wants with wind direction. Regret buying. If anyone asked I'd recommend a canopy . Yes, a little bulkier but worth it in the end as more of a sure thing
